US tech giant Nvidia has decided to acquire key assets of AI chip startup Grok, which specializes in designing advanced artificial intelligence accelerator chips. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that this acquisition will significantly strengthen the company’s AI product portfolio. According to CNBC, the deal is expected to be valued at nearly $20 billion (around ₹1.8 lakh crore) and will be executed entirely in cash.
Although Grok was not actively seeking a sale, the agreement was finalized swiftly, said Disruptive CEO Alex Davis. He added that Nvidia will acquire all of Grok’s assets except its cloud business. Disruptive has invested over $500 million in Grok. Just three months ago, Grok raised $750 million at an enterprise valuation of $6.9 billion, with investors including BlackRock, Samsung, Cisco, Altimeter, and 1789 Capital, which counts Donald Trump Jr. as a partner. Nvidia’s largest acquisition to date was Mellanox in 2019 for $7 billion.
