The Telangana CID has achieved a major breakthrough in its crackdown on illegal online betting operations by arresting 11 individuals involved in running an online betting network. The accused, including organisers and their associates, were arrested during a coordinated operation conducted across multiple states, including Delhi, Gujarat and Punjab. Authorities also seized mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices allegedly used for managing betting activities.
Addressing the media, Telangana CID Chief Charu Sinha said the investigation was taken up after online betting cases were transferred to the CID by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government. The CID cracked the "Dafa Bet" case registered in Karimnagar and found that organisers were earning between ₹8 lakh and ₹10 lakh per day through illegal betting activities. As part of the operation, 46 mule bank accounts were frozen, while 108 betting applications were identified and reported for blocking. The CID has registered 414 cases related to online betting across Telangana and warned celebrities and social media influencers against promoting such platforms, stating that strict action would be taken against repeat offenders.
