A health alert was triggered in China after a norovirus outbreak at a school left over 100 students ill. Medical authorities conducted tests and confirmed norovirus infection in 103 students. In response, officials carried out extensive sanitization across classrooms and the school premises. Treatment is being provided to affected students, while precautionary measures are being implemented to prevent further spread of the virus.
Health officials stated that all infected students are recovering and are being monitored daily. Virus tests were also conducted among residents living near the school. According to Guangdong Province disease control authorities, norovirus outbreaks are common between October and March. The virus mainly causes vomiting and diarrhea and spreads rapidly. First identified in 1968 in Ohio, USA, norovirus affects hundreds of millions globally each year, with children under five accounting for a significant portion of infections and fatalities.
