Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has announced that the current toll collection system will soon be completely removed from the country. He stated that the new technology, which is already being implemented experimentally in 10 locations, is producing excellent results. He informed the Lok Sabha that preparations are underway to replace all traditional toll gates within the next year and introduce this system nationwide. The government has taken special note of the heavy traffic jams at toll gates, loss of travel time, and fuel wastage.
In this advanced system, tolling will be done using satellite technology (Satellite-based Tolling). This means vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll gates; the toll amount will be automatically deducted based on the distance traveled using GPS tracking. The Minister explained that this will make road travel faster and smoother. Once this change is implemented, the long queues, honking, and time wastage at toll plazas will become a thing of the past. Officials describe this as a revolutionary step that will transform the country’s road transportation system.
