The United States government has announced that it will begin reviewing the social media accounts of H-1B and H-4 visa applicants starting Monday. According to a recent order issued by the US Department of State, online presence screening will begin from the 15th of this month.
Applicants for H-1B, H-4, as well as F, M, and J visas have been advised to change their social media account settings from private to public to facilitate vetting. F, M, and J visas are mainly issued to students and exchange visitors.
Due to these new measures, several H-1B visa interviews have already been postponed. The State Department stated that all visa applicants will undergo thorough screening, with every decision taken from a national security perspective. The US government emphasized that applicants must demonstrate their credibility and assure that they do not pose any risk to American interests or public safety.
