A new subvariant of COVID-19, identified as BA.3.2 and nicknamed “Cicada,” has emerged, raising global attention. The variant has been detected in regions including the United States, South Africa, and Europe. Belonging to the Omicron family, it carries over 70 mutations, which may contribute to faster transmission, according to experts.
The symptoms remain similar to earlier variants, including cough, sore throat, fatigue, nasal congestion, and headaches. However, there is currently no evidence suggesting increased severity or higher hospitalisation rates. Health experts advise people to stay cautious by taking booster doses, wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hygiene, and consulting doctors if symptoms persist.
