A tragic accident in Saudi Arabia early Monday resulted in the deaths of 45 Hyderabad residents who were on a pilgrimage from Mecca to Medina. Their bus collided head-on with an oil tanker coming from the opposite direction. The impact triggered a massive fire, completely engulfing the vehicle. Since the accident occurred around midnight, passengers had almost no chance to escape the flames. There were 46 passengers on the bus, and only one survived—Mohammad Abdul Shoaib, who sustained injuries and was rushed to the Saudi German Hospital, where he is currently being treated in ICU.
The remaining 45 bodies were moved to a local hospital. According to officials, the group had begun their pilgrimage on November 9, with different members traveling in separate vehicles earlier.
As the news broke, leaders nationwide expressed their grief. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy declared deep shock, immediately setting up a control room at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi and initiating coordination with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences, stating that India’s Embassy and Consulate were offering all assistance and staying in close touch with Saudi authorities.
