In a historic development in Telangana, 130 Maoists surrendered in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Among them were three state committee members, one regional committee member, 10 divisional committee members, 46 area committee members, and 70 party cadres. During the surrender, the Maoists handed over 124 firearms to the police, including one light machine gun, 31 AK-47 rifles, 21 INSAS rifles, 20 SLRs, 18 .303 rifles and 33 other weapons. This marks the largest mass surrender of Maoists in the state’s history.
Among those who surrendered were Navatha, daughter of revolutionary writer Chalasani Prasad and several members who had served under Dev G, a central committee member of the Maoist party, in the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). These cadres had previously acted as protection teams for leaders like Dev G and Bade Chokkar Rao. Officials confirmed that the surrender process also included the secure handover of all weapons.
This significant development followed high-level discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Four days prior, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, DGP Shivadhar Reddy, Additional DG Vijaya Kumar and Special Intelligence Branch IG P. Sumathi had met in Delhi, leading to the coordinated surrender of a large number of armed Maoist cadres in Telangana. The surrender process gained momentum following the earlier defection of four senior leaders at the end of the previous month.
