Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has reacted to his popular nickname “Sarpanch,” which he has been called since joining the Punjab Kings. Iyer revealed that he initially did not understand why teammates were addressing him by that name or what it meant. The nickname quickly gained attention among fans and within the team environment.
He later learned from his teammates that “Sarpanch” refers to a leader or head of a family, group, or village. Iyer said he really liked the title and embraced it with pride. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have also highlighted him as “Sarpanch Saab,” further strengthening his identity as a leader within the squad.
