The arrest of Immadi Ravi, the prime accused in the much-talked-about iBomma case that has shaken Tollywood, has now taken an interesting turn with noted criminal lawyer Saleem stepping in to defend him. Saleem, who earlier handled high-profile cases like the Kodikatti Srinu and Gulakarai cases, has now taken up Ravi’s case, drawing significant public attention.
Speaking to the media after Ravi was sent to remand, Saleem said that the police followed due legal procedure in the arrest. He mentioned that every accused person has the right to legal assistance, and that is why he decided to take up the case after discussing it with Ravi’s father. He assured that he will ensure proper legal support for his client.
Responding to reports that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) might also enter the investigation, Saleem said they are prepared to face any agency within the framework of law. He recalled that the ED had earlier handled cases involving leaders like Jagan Mohan Reddy and Kavitha, and stated that Ravi’s case too would be dealt with legally and transparently.
Saleem also expressed surprise at the massive social-media support Ravi has been receiving. While film producers and police view Ravi as an accused, many common people are treating him like a mass hero, he remarked. He shared that he has been receiving several messages appreciating his decision to take up Ravi’s case, which he said made him happy.
The police have sought seven days of custody for Ravi. Saleem said that if the court approves custody, they will request that the questioning be conducted in the presence of a lawyer as per Section 41D. He also confirmed that a bail petition has already been filed and expressed confidence that bail will be granted soon. He added that no matter how strongly the police proceed, they are ready for a solid legal fight.
With lawyer Saleem’s entry, the iBomma Ravi case has taken a new twist. With film industry leaders on one side and large social-media support on the other, everyone is now watching closely to see what decision the court will deliver.
