Plans are currently being finalized for the construction of a massive bus terminal in Hyderabad city, built to international standards. The RTC (Road Transport Corporation) is taking swift measures to construct this terminal across an expanse of approximately 150 acres in the Bahadurpally area, located in the vicinity of the Shamshabad Airport. To this end, a letter has already been addressed to the Ranga Reddy District Collector requesting the allocation of the necessary government land. It is understood that the tendering process will commence immediately upon the completion of land acquisition.
The terminal is being designed with modern infrastructure and amenities to ensure maximum comfort and convenience for passengers. It is set to feature facilities such as an inter-state bus terminal, an electric bus depot, charging stations, and multi-level parking. Furthermore, with a view toward overall urban development, measures have also been initiated to construct similar bus terminals at a total of 12 locations situated near the Outer Ring Road.
Key decisions are also being taken to curb pollution within the city moving forward. Diesel buses arriving from the districts will no longer be permitted to enter the city limits; instead, their operations will be restricted to the areas beyond the Outer Ring Road. Plans are being formulated to ensure that only electric buses operate as city services within the urban area. Additionally, buses arriving from the Bengaluru route will also be restricted to this new terminal.
Designed with future transportation requirements in mind, this project is slated to be seamlessly integrated with both Metro Rail and High-Speed Rail services. This will provide passengers with the opportunity to access all modes of transport at a single location.
The terminal is set to feature spacious waiting halls, AC lounges, free Wi-Fi, special amenities for persons with disabilities, dedicated zones for women and children, and baby care rooms. Additionally, a facility to provide real-time information regarding bus arrivals and departures via a mobile app will also be introduced.
Once implemented, this massive project is expected to bring about significant changes to Hyderabad's urban transportation system.
