Several documents claiming to contain IndiGo’s staff dress code and personal grooming guidelines have gone viral on social media. The circulated papers alleged that female employees were not allowed to wear mangalsutra, sindoor, mehendi or religious threads, while male staff were reportedly barred from wearing tilak. These claims triggered criticism and accusations of religious discrimination against the airline.
Responding to the controversy, IndiGo clarified that the viral documents are completely fake and not part of the company’s official guidelines. The airline urged the public not to believe or share unverified information. It stated that policies designed for pilots and cabin crew are focused on employee safety and well-being. The company also reiterated its commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace environment. A similar controversy had recently involved Lenskart, whose CEO Peyush Bansal clarified that there are no restrictions in the company regarding bindi, tilak or similar personal expressions.
