Campaigning has intensified in West Bengal ahead of the second phase of the Assembly elections. Leaders from the ruling Trinamool Congress, along with the BJP and Congress, are conducting extensive outreach programmes in an effort to attract voters. Whirlwind tours, public meetings and roadshows have further heated the political atmosphere in the state.
Amid this backdrop, an interesting detail has emerged regarding the nomination of BJP candidate Arjun Singh. Contesting from the Naihati constituency in North 24 Parganas district, he has declared 119 pending criminal cases against him in his nomination affidavit. During the previous elections, he had reported 24 cases, making the sharp rise to 119 a major talking point in the political circles.
