Decline in home sales across the country

Decline in home sales across the country

The slowdown in home sales in the country continues. According to a recent report by leading brokerage firm Nuwama, the pressure on home purchases is likely to continue in 2026 and sales of luxury homes are also set to slow. The main reasons for this are the decline in the purchasing power of homes, the lack of affordable housing for the middle class and the slowdown in the creation of new jobs.

According to Nuama's report: In September 2026, home sales across the country fell by 3 per cent compared to the same month last year. Hyderabad and Mumbai saw a decline of 24 per cent each, followed by Chennai (16 per cent) and Pune (9 per cent). Bengaluru and NCR saw a growth of three to six per cent.
