The Tamil Nadu government has revised its building regulations, increasing the permissible height limit for non-high-rise buildings to 19.5 metres. The change is aimed at supporting building development and updating the state’s construction guidelines. The revised rules introduce changes to building requirements, including provisions that affect hotels and lodges.
Under the new regulations, hotels and lodges must provide dormitory accommodation for drivers, with one bed for every required car parking space. The provision is intended to ensure that drivers have access to suitable resting facilities while their passengers stay at these establishments. The changes reflect the government’s focus on building development alongside driver welfare.
