India is gearing up for its first-ever bullet train service, which is expected to begin operations in August 2027, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced. In the first phase, the high-speed train will run on a 100 km stretch between Surat and Vapi in Gujarat.
The minister also stated that the entire Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will be completed by 2029. Once fully operational, the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will reduce dramatically to just two hours.
These comments from the minister come shortly after the Prime Minister’s recent review of the project.
