Air pollution, which has posed a serious threat to Delhi and other major cities, has now reached Hyderabad. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has touched 255, falling into the hazardous category. Industrial and high-traffic areas such as Balanagar, Sanathnagar, Jeedimetla, and Mallapur are witnessing severe pollution levels. Winter smog combined with vehicular emissions and garbage burning has led to a sharp rise in fine particulate matter in the air. Doctors have advised people with respiratory issues, sinusitis, and dust allergies to wear masks and avoid outdoor exercise, especially during morning hours.
Meanwhile, the situation in Delhi remains alarming, with AQI levels ranging between 400 and 500, classified as ‘severe’. Dense smog has reduced visibility, disrupting flight and train operations. In response, the Delhi government has imposed strict restrictions under GRAP-4 and declared holidays for schools. Experts have also warned that air quality is deteriorating rapidly in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
