The Uppada coastline in Kakinada district’s Kothapalli mandal has been experiencing strong wave activity, leading to rapid coastal erosion. The strong currents and rough sea conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday resulted in powerful waves crashing onto the Konapapapeta shoreline, causing damage to fishermen’s huts and nearby houses. One house slab collapsed, and several temporary structures were destroyed.
A few years ago, the sea was two to three furlongs away from Konapapapeta village. However, repeated cyclones and low-pressure systems have pushed the sea closer over time. It is now nearing the R&B road, raising serious concerns among local fishermen.
