As air pollution levels continue to worsen in the national capital, the Delhi government has announced several strict measures to control the situation. Offices across the city, both government and private, have been directed to operate with a maximum of 50 percent staff. All organizations have been instructed to provide mandatory work-from-home facilities to at least half of their employees, while essential services will remain exempt from these rules.
Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra stated that workers who lost employment due to the implementation of GRAP-3 and GRAP-4 pollution control measures would receive ₹10,000 as compensation. He noted that these restrictions had been in effect for the past 16 days, significantly impacting daily wage workers.
In addition, vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be denied fuel at petrol stations in Delhi starting Thursday. Private vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not meet BS-4 emission standards will also be barred from entering the city.
To further tackle pollution, the Supreme Court has advised authorities to explore the possibility of closing or temporarily relocating nine toll plazas located at Delhi’s borders.
