Defying the common belief that agriculture is unprofitable without chemicals, two women farmers from Andhra Pradesh have emerged as role models in natural farming. Arika Narasamma from Kurupam mandal and Lalam Jyothi from Anakapalli district have not only achieved sustainable incomes but are also inspiring others to adopt eco-friendly practices. Recognising their efforts, the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sadhikara Samstha, in collaboration with the Foundation on Future Farming in Berlin, selected them for a month-long exposure visit to Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium to exchange knowledge on sustainable agriculture practices.
Narasamma earns around ₹20,000 per month by cultivating diverse crops under the ‘Any Time Money’ and ‘A-Grade’ natural farming models, while also pursuing a four-year degree in agriculture. Jyothi, an MBA graduate who turned to farming to ensure healthy food for her family, now cultivates over 42 varieties of crops on two acres, earning nearly ₹2 lakh annually. Using techniques such as Jeevamrutham, Beejamrutham and mulching, she has become a mentor at the Indo-German Global Academy near Pulivendula. Their success stories highlight the potential of chemical-free farming in improving both livelihoods and environmental sustainability.
