The Supreme Court has issued important directions to the Central Government regarding compensation for individuals who suffered severe illness or lost their lives after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The court instructed the Centre to frame a ‘No Fault Compensation’ policy so that victims or their families do not have to prove negligence or fault by any individual or authority in order to receive compensation.
The directions were issued on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta while hearing petitions filed by families seeking accountability for vaccine-related adverse effects. The court stated that once such a policy is formulated by the Centre, families affected by the adverse impact of COVID vaccines will be able to receive compensation from the government more easily.
