The disruption in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders has begun to severely impact businesses across the state, particularly in Hyderabad. Over the past two days, several hotels in major cities have been forced to shut down temporarily due to the shortage of gas cylinders. Many other eateries have reduced their menus and increased prices to cope with the crisis. The Hyderabad IT Corridor Hotels Association has announced that tea and coffee services will be temporarily suspended, while dishes that require more cooking time and oil—such as chapati, dosa, and puri—will also not be available for the time being.
Hotel owners say that from roadside tiffin stalls to star hotels, most establishments depend entirely on LPG for cooking. With the current stock of cylinders expected to last only a day or two, many fear they will have no option but to close operations if supplies are not restored soon. PG hostels and mess facilities in areas such as SR Nagar, Ameerpet, KPHB, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Ashok Nagar, and Dilsukhnagar have also modified their menus due to the shortage. Meals have been restricted to simple dishes like rice, dal, sambar, and rasam, while breakfast items have seen price hikes of up to ₹10–₹15. If the shortage continues, hostel operators warn they may have to temporarily shut down services.
