The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has unveiled a major initiative to tackle the rising stray dog menace in the national capital. As part of this large-scale plan, simultaneous action will be taken on nearly 25,000 stray dogs across the city. In the upcoming budget, the MCD has allocated ₹35 crore to strengthen monitoring, ensure public safety, and improve animal welfare through systematic microchipping and vaccination.
According to officials, ₹20 crore from the total allocation will be spent directly by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, while the remaining ₹15 crore will be implemented through registered non-governmental organizations already involved in stray dog management and animal welfare activities. The initiative aims to create a structured database of stray dogs, reduce health risks, and ensure better coordination between civic authorities and welfare agencies.
