Major disruptions in India’s largest airline, Indigo, have caused severe inconvenience to passengers across the country. The DGCA revealed that the airline has cancelled as many as 1,232 flights in recent days due to internal challenges, staff shortages, and operational issues. Only 35 flights operated on Wednesday.
The regulator has directed Indigo’s management to appear at its headquarters to explain the widespread service failures. Multiple airports, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, witnessed chaos as angry passengers confronted the airline staff. Many visuals of the scenes went viral online.
Indigo issued an apology stating that technical issues, operational hurdles, and congestion at airports were responsible for the disruptions. The airline assured passengers of refunds and alternate arrangements wherever necessary.
Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport alone saw 40 cancellations on Wednesday, and 18 more flights were cancelled for Thursday. Meanwhile, several airports reported temporary check-in failures, with some attributing it to Windows-related issues a claim that Microsoft has denied.
