Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the rich diversity of mango varieties across India, calling the fruit the “king of fruits.” Speaking in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, he noted that every region in the country offers unique mango flavors and aromas. He mentioned popular varieties such as Alphonso from Maharashtra, Kesar from Gujarat, Dasheri from Uttar Pradesh, and Himsagar from West Bengal. In the southern regions, varieties like Banganapalli, Totapuri, Neelam, and Malgova are widely relished, while Suvarnarekha is found in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. He also highlighted Bihar’s fragrant Jardalu and the distinctive green Langra from Varanasi, explaining how mangoes vary in taste, color, and shape across regions, with their journey extending from villages to global markets.
The Prime Minister also advised citizens to stay hydrated amid rising summer temperatures and to follow official guidelines to avoid heat-related issues. In another segment, he interacted with athletes Gurinderveer Singh and Animesh Kujur, who recently set national records at a competition held in Ranchi. Praising their achievements, Modi noted that their performance in the 100-meter race, where multiple records were broken within two days, has become a topic of nationwide discussion.
