Air India has temporarily grounded one of its Dreamliner aircraft following a pilot’s complaint regarding a possible defect in the fuel control switch. According to sources, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which operated a flight from London, landed at Bengaluru airport on Monday morning. After landing, the pilot reported a suspected technical issue in the fuel control switch, prompting the airline to withdraw the aircraft from service.
Air India stated that the matter was immediately reported to the DGCA. Following regulatory directions, the airline conducted inspections of fuel control switches across its entire Boeing 787 fleet. No abnormalities were found in the other aircraft, the airline added.
The grounded aircraft is currently undergoing detailed checks in coordination with experts from the aircraft manufacturer. Air India emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority and that the aircraft will return to service only after complete clearance.
The development has drawn attention due to a previous aviation incident in Ahmedabad last year. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), in its preliminary report, had identified fuel switch failure as the cause, stating that fuel supply to both engines was cut off within seconds. Against this backdrop, the latest issue has gained added significance.
