After the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season, Team India is set to tour Ireland as its first overseas assignment. According to BCCI sources, young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi is almost certain to be included in the squad. However, a key challenge for the team management will be deciding his batting position and whom to leave out. The team already has several aggressive openers, including Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ishan Kishan. In such a scenario, accommodating Vaibhav in the playing XI raises questions about which player might be dropped. There is also a possibility of adjusting some players to different batting positions for the Ireland series. Meanwhile, reports suggest that captain Suryakumar Yadav may not be included in the squad for this tour.
The selection committee is also faced with a leadership dilemma. If Suryakumar Yadav is rested, either Abhishek Sharma or Sanju Samson could be considered for the captaincy during the Ireland series. However, if either of them is excluded to make room for Vaibhav, the BCCI would need to justify such a decision. Retaining Suryakumar while leaving out in-form players could raise questions. Therefore, cricket experts believe that resting Suryakumar and assigning the captaincy to either Abhishek or Sanju could be a more balanced and practical approach.
