

Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja has achieved a significant milestone in Tamil cinema. The 2024 crime thriller is reportedly set to receive an official Hollywood remake, making it a notable cross-industry adaptation. The film performed strongly at the box office and also received considerable attention in the Chinese market, where it reportedly collected around Rs. 91.65 crore. Its OTT performance further added to its popularity.
The Hollywood remake is being planned by Fashion Studios, with production expected to begin next year. There has been speculation on social media that Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey could feature in the remake, but no official confirmation has been made regarding the cast. Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead and Anurag Kashyap as the antagonist. The story follows a barber who approaches the police after a dustbin goes missing from his house, eventually leading to a revenge drama filled with unexpected twists.
