Tamil Artist Clarifies the Viral Sound from Tollywood

It is impossible to predict what will go viral on social media, and the latest sensation is the quirky ‘Faah’ sound. The expression has been trending across Tamil and Telugu social media platforms, with its usage even being noticed in films associated with prominent director Vignesh Shivan. Now, popular Tamil voice artist Keerthi Vasan has revealed an interesting connection behind the viral sound. In an interview with VJ Mohan, he said the sound originated from the late Telugu comedian Venumadhav, whose distinctive voice and delivery had a unique tone. Vasan recalled dubbing for Venumadhav’s characters during the early stages of his career.

Explaining Venumadhav’s trademark style, Keerthi Vasan said the comedian would energetically say expressions such as ‘Vaah.. Arey.. Vaah’ while reacting to surprise or other emotions. According to Vasan, the expression transformed into ‘Faah’ during Tamil dubbing, and he began using variations such as ‘Daa.. Oo.. Faah.. Super Faah’ to make it more humorous. The sound eventually gained popularity and is now widely used in both Tamil and Telugu. Vasan credited Venumadhav as the original inspiration behind the expression, making the viral trend a reminder of the late comedian’s distinctive comic timing and lasting impact.
