Senior actor Prakash Raj expressed concern over the growing political interference in the film industry while speaking at the 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival. Addressing the audience, he stated that the core purpose of international film and literature festivals is to encourage the exchange of diverse ideas, but such platforms are gradually losing their essence due to increasing political influence.
Prakash Raj, who is serving as the brand ambassador for this year’s festival, urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to allow the screening of Palestinian films at the event. He said banning such films is unacceptable and appealed to the state government to oppose the Centre’s decision. Highlighting that the Kerala government had already permitted the screening of Palestinian films, he requested Karnataka to take similar steps. The 17th Bengaluru International Film Festival will continue until February 6. During the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured full government support for filmmakers who create socially responsible cinema and for the overall growth of the Karnataka film industry.
