Right now, one of the hottest discussions in Tollywood is content delivery. Especially for overseas releases, if drives are not sent on time, the problems can be severe—NRI fans have experienced this firsthand. At times, overseas Telugus themselves had to act as courier boys, rushing disks to theaters. These last-minute pressures tell the story. This time, luckily, everything fell in place and premieres were safe. But in the future, not everyone will have such support.
In this regard, Dhanush is way ahead. His upcoming film Idli Kottu, releasing on October 1st, has its final copies ready seven days in advance. With this, distributors and exhibitors are relaxed, without last-minute tension. However, this film can’t really be compared to OG. In terms of scale, budget, and cast, Pawan Kalyan’s film is much bigger, with heavy corrections and CG works. Some delay is understandable. But once a date is fixed, tasks must be executed accordingly. Unfortunately, OG couldn’t escape the pressure, which is why fans across the US to Hyderabad were stressed about delivery.
And this is not just OG’s problem. Kingdom too faced last-minute pressure, and the same has happened with other pan-India films earlier. It has even reached a stage where overseas distributors are rethinking about Telugu films.
As for Idli Kottu, it is an emotional drama directed by Dhanush himself, focusing more on the Tamil market than Telugu or Kannada. Still, with Dasara holidays in mind, it is entering the ring despite strong competition from OG and Kantara Chapter 1. A Telugu pre-release event is planned soon.
