Winter season often brings cold, cough, throat infections and breathing problems. Doctors say immunity can become weak during this time, so food habits need special care. People with high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and breathing issues should be extra cautious during winter.
Eating refrigerated foods, ice creams and cold drinks in winter can cause throat infections, cold and sinus problems. Too many sweets reduce immunity and increase the risk of viral infections. Processed foods, maida-based items and fried foods are hard to digest and may cause gas, constipation, weight gain and stomach discomfort. Eating heavy meals late at night can lead to acidity and sleep problems.
During cold, cough or fever, it is better to avoid milk and curd as they increase mucus. If needed, warm milk with turmeric and pepper can be helpful. Excess coffee causes dehydration, dry skin and sleep issues, so herbal tea or jaggery tea is a better option. Keep rooms ventilated for fresh air. Applying oil to hands and feet before sleep and using moisturizer after bath helps prevent dry skin and cracks.
