West Bengal has witnessed a major revival in its jute industry after 14 previously closed jute mills resumed operations within a month. The reopening has provided significant relief to thousands of workers, allowing them to return to work and restoring income for families affected by prolonged closures. The development is being viewed as a positive step towards strengthening one of the state's most important traditional industries.
According to the state's Labour Department, production has already resumed in several mills, while repair and restoration work is in its final stages at others. Officials said Jagdal, Empire Emco, Bharat, and Lumtex jute mills are also expected to restart operations soon, creating additional employment opportunities. The state government said it remains committed to reviving the jute sector, promoting industrial growth, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for workers across West Bengal.
