Teachers play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens, but thousands of in-service teachers in Telangana are now facing anxiety over the TET qualification requirement. As per a Supreme Court order, it has been made mandatory to qualify in TET by August 31, 2028, adding additional pressure on teachers.
Teachers who are already engaged in teaching, administrative duties, and family responsibilities are now required to prepare for another examination. Concerns are being raised about job security, promotions, and service conditions. Many teachers with 25 to 30 years of experience are finding it difficult to appear for the test again.
In this context, the Telangana government’s decision to consider a special TET for in-service teachers is being welcomed. Teacher associations have urged changes in syllabus, exam pattern, and qualifying marks, suggesting that experience should also be considered. A humane approach, they say, would provide relief to teachers and help them focus better on education.
