Himachal Pradesh Takes Key Decision for the Welfare of Orphans

The Himachal Pradesh government has introduced a new cess of 60 paise per litre on petrol and diesel for the welfare of orphans. The new cess came into effect from midnight on August 11. The revenue generated through the levy will be used for welfare programmes for widows and orphaned children across the state.

The cess will be collected at the first point of sale of petrol and diesel. Following a recently approved amendment to the law, the government has the authority to impose a cess of up to ₹5 per litre. However, it has currently limited the levy to 60 paise per litre. The move is aimed at generating funds for the welfare of orphans and widows.
