Congress Issues Whip to MPs for Key Parliament Days

The Congress has issued a three-line whip to its members in both Houses of Parliament, asking them to be present on August 10, 11 and 12. Rajya Sabha Chief Whip Jairam Ramesh directed party MPs to remain in the House from 11 a.m. until the proceedings end and support the Congress position during the discussions. A similar whip has been issued to the party’s Lok Sabha members.

The move comes ahead of potentially important parliamentary debates next week. Congress is preparing for the possibility of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act amendment bill being taken up, while the government may also introduce a constitutional amendment related to delimitation and women’s reservation. However, neither the FCRA amendment nor the women’s reservation bill linked to delimitation appeared in the provisional government business list released by the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
