The Telangana Exhibitors Association has taken a significant decision regarding ticket pricing in single-screen theatres. The association clarified that ticket prices will not be increased in single screens even if film teams secure government permissions through GO orders. Calling it a commitment to audiences, exhibitors stated that the percentage-sharing system is essential for the survival of single-screen theatres in Telangana. During a press meet held under the slogan “Save the Disappearing Cinema Halls,” several exhibitors from the Telugu states participated and urged producers and distributors to support the percentage model.
Producer and distributor Shirish stated that exhibitors are only demanding the implementation of the percentage-sharing system and are not targeting any producer or film. He questioned why Telugu states continue with the rental model while other states follow percentage-sharing practices. Veteran producer Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao said exhibitors are like children to the industry and emphasized the need for coordination between exhibitors, distributors, and producers. Suniel Narang expressed concern over the lack of modern facilities in single screens and warned that the closure of theatres would hurt the entire industry. Telangana State Film Chamber Secretary Sridhar clarified that exhibitors are not planning a theatre shutdown and only wish to screen films under the percentage-sharing model.
