South Indian Dressing Style Insulted in Rajya Sabha

A controversy erupted in the Rajya Sabha after Kerala MP John Brittas was allegedly subjected to a derogatory “lungi” remark while he was speaking in the House. The comment, reportedly made by BJP MP Sushmita Dev, was criticised as an insult to the traditional dressing style associated with South India. Brittas subsequently moved a privilege motion over the incident.

Rajya Sabha Chairman expressed displeasure over the conduct, while Sushmita Dev has reportedly not apologised for the remark. The incident has sparked criticism over the use of personal and regional references during parliamentary proceedings. Sushmita Dev recently joined the BJP after previously being associated with the Trinamool Congress.
