Spotify is introducing an AI Persona badge to identify artist profiles that appear to represent AI generated identities. Artists can disclose their AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists from August 11, while the company will independently review profiles featuring photorealistic AI generated names, images or identities. The labels are expected to start appearing from mid September across artist pages, Search and playlist track listings.
Spotify says AI Personas will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. Their music will also be kept out of personalised recommendations unless a user follows the relevant profile. The company clarified that the label applies to an artist’s presented identity, not the use of AI in music production. Real artists who use AI as part of their creative process will not automatically receive the label.
The company will notify artists when it applies an AI Persona label, allowing them to confirm the status or appeal the decision. Spotify also plans to introduce a listener reporting option for suspected unlabelled AI profiles. The move is part of the platform’s broader effort to improve transparency around AI generated content, alongside tools such as AI Credits, SongDNA, Verified by Spotify and Artist Profile Protection.
