The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a notice to the Union Government over a public interest litigation seeking stricter enforcement and prohibition of child labour in entertainment and hospitality-linked sectors. The plea highlighted the alleged exploitation of minors in establishments such as orchestras, dance bars, dance troupes, nautanki performances, massage parlours, spas and salons, urging the Centre to strengthen monitoring systems and implement tougher safeguards.
According to the petition, children employed in such sectors are vulnerable to physical, emotional and economic exploitation, along with risks of trafficking and abuse. The petitioner requested immediate judicial intervention to ensure strict implementation of child protection and labour laws across the country. The apex court has now directed the Union Government to submit its response on the matter.
