Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticised the Narendra Modi-led government over the reported settlement in businessman Subhash Chandra’s insolvency case. Referring to reports that creditors may recover only a small portion of the ₹22,006 crore in admitted claims, Gandhi alleged that the episode reflects what he called “two systems” in the country.
Gandhi compared the case with the treatment of ordinary borrowers, arguing that people can face pressure from banks even over relatively small unpaid EMIs, while wealthy borrowers may receive substantial relief. The reported settlement has also triggered debate over bank recoveries, loan settlements and whether the same standards are applied to ordinary borrowers and affluent individuals.
