Supreme Court Orders Status Quo on Sridevi Family Property

Supreme Court Orders Status Quo on Sridevi Family Property

The Supreme Court has passed a key interim order in a property dispute involving the family of late actor Sridevi in Chennai. The Court directed that status quo be maintained over the property until the next hearing and issued notices to Sridevi’s husband, film producer Boney Kapoor, and their daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. A bench comprising Justices K.V. Viswanathan and Arun Pillai passed the order while hearing a plea filed by M.C. Sivakami and M.C. Natarajan.

The property was purchased in 1988 by Sridevi, her sister Srilatha and their mother Rajeswari, according to the case record. Sivakami, Natarajan and their mother Chandrabhanu later claimed a share in the property based on alleged ancestral rights and challenged the sale deeds. The Madras High Court had earlier rejected their suit, holding that the claim was filed after a prolonged delay and that key facts had been suppressed. Challenging that order, the petitioners approached the Supreme Court, which has now ordered status quo and issued notices to the Kapoor family.
