Ankita Yeragal, the niece of Karnataka Congress MLA Umesh Meti, has been removed from her position as a medical officer at a government Nammal Clinic in Bagalkot. She had reportedly been working at the clinic for several months and receiving a monthly salary of more than Rs 70,000.
Officials reportedly found that Yeragal had been absent from duty since March this year. During an inquiry, it came to light that she was pursuing postgraduate studies at a private medical college while drawing a salary from the government hospital. As pursuing studies elsewhere while holding the government medical post was considered a violation of the applicable rules, she was issued a notice and directed to appear for an inquiry on Wednesday. However, she did not attend. Subsequently, the District Health Officer issued orders removing her from the post of medical officer.
