A series of accidents at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has raised serious safety concerns. On Tuesday, molten steel spilled onto the ground from a ladle in the SMS-2 unit. In a similar incident on Wednesday morning, a ladle developed a hole in the SMS-1 TP Bay during the A shift, causing liquid steel to leak onto the floor. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either of the incidents.
The plant management expressed relief over the absence of loss of life. However, the recurrence of such accidents, even as a three-member committee appointed by the central government is already investigating earlier incidents, has drawn attention to ongoing safety lapses within the facility.
