Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has shared insights into his approach to parenting, stressing that children should understand the value of money before becoming accustomed to an expensive lifestyle. Speaking on The Life Savers Show, hosted by digital creator Neha Bedi, Sehwag said his sons play cricket at the Under-16 and Under-19 levels and earn money on their own. He recalled an incident when a fuel bill for their car came to ₹7,000. When he paid the amount, his sons did not think much of it. However, when they had to pay a similar expense from their own money, they began to understand the value of spending, he explained.
Sehwag said it was natural for children to be attracted to branded watches and luxury cars, but living merely to impress others was less meaningful than earning recognition through genuine achievements. He believes that lasting respect comes from one's actions rather than showing off expensive possessions. He also advised his sons to focus on their cricket and not be distracted by comparisons or criticism because of their father's reputation. According to Sehwag, learning financial responsibility and developing the ability to handle pressure are essential lessons that can help children pursue their goals with confidence.
