

Tension prevailed in Alluri Sitarama Raju district after an international ganja smuggling gang allegedly attacked police personnel during a vehicle inspection. The incident took place near Lothugadda under Annavaram Police Station limits in Chintapalli mandal. Acting on prior information, police intercepted a car suspected of transporting ganja during the early hours of Wednesday.
According to police, the smugglers pelted stones at officers and allegedly grabbed the collar of a head constable while attempting to evade inspection. In response, police fired warning shots into the air, forcing the smugglers to retreat and surrender. Four accused were taken into custody. Police seized 209 kilograms of ganja, one car, and two two-wheelers. The accused are reported to be from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.
