E-commerce giant Amazon has partnered with Tata Motors to introduce electric trucks for its transportation and delivery operations in India. Under the agreement, Tata Motors will supply 3,000 light and medium-duty electric trucks to Amazon’s carrier partners. These partner companies will operate and maintain the vehicles. The initial deployment is set to begin in Delhi during the festive season, with all 3,000 trucks expected to be rolled out over the next three years, according to Amazon Vice President Abhinav Singh.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy congratulated both companies during the handover of the first batch of vehicles. He highlighted the growing need for environmentally friendly and energy-efficient transportation solutions as demand for goods movement continues to rise. Kumaraswamy noted that while electric passenger vehicles and two-wheelers have made encouraging progress, electrification in the commercial vehicle segment is equally important. Tata Motors Vice President Rajesh Kaul said the partnership could help accelerate the wider adoption of electric commercial vehicles in India.
