Dr Ankita Yaragal, niece of Bagalkot MLA Umesh Meti, is facing an inquiry over allegations that she drew a monthly salary of more than ₹70,000 as a medical officer at a Namma Clinic while allegedly remaining away from duty. She was posted at the Namma Clinic in Wambe Colony, Bagalkot, and was reportedly pursuing a postgraduate medical course at a private medical college at the same time. Authorities initiated an inquiry after allegations surfaced that she had been absent from the clinic for several months.
Dr Ankita did not appear for the initial inquiry, following which the Bagalkot Zilla Panchayat CEO issued her a notice directing her to appear on September 18. The authorities warned that an ex parte decision could be taken if she fails to attend the hearing. Officials have also indicated that the salary or honorarium paid during the alleged period of unauthorised absence could be recovered. Meanwhile, reports said she has been relieved from her position. Her father, District Health Officer Dr Rajkumar Yaragal, said he had not released her salary after taking charge and that her appointment was made during his predecessor’s tenure.
