Meta Faces Heat Over PM Modi Reel Removal

Meta is facing political and regulatory pressure after it briefly removed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook reel from the platform. Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology Chairman Nishikant Dubey said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg should apologise for the incident, warning that repeated lapses could put the company's "safe harbour" protection under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act at risk.

The remarks were made during a meeting attended by senior representatives from Meta, Google, YouTube, X, Snapchat, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting was convened after the government sought an explanation from Meta over the temporary removal of the Prime Minister’s video, with the issue raising broader concerns about content moderation and platform accountability.
