Speculation is rife that Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has resigned, reportedly expressing dissatisfaction over the growing influence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). International media reports claim that he has submitted his resignation letter to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warning that governance is increasingly slipping into the hands of IRGC commanders. He allegedly criticized the sidelining of government officials in key decisions since the onset of the conflict and stated that he was not being allowed to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities. However, the Supreme Leader is said to have kept the resignation pending without taking a final decision.
Meanwhile, Iran’s presidential office has strongly denied these reports. Deputy head of communications Mehdi Tabatabai accused sections of the media of spreading misinformation, especially at a time when sensitive discussions with the United States are underway. Supporting this stance, a Turkish government publication also dismissed the resignation claims. On the diplomatic front, former US President Donald Trump has reportedly sought revisions in proposed peace deal terms with Iran, insisting on a complete halt to Iran’s nuclear weapons program and changes regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded firmly, stating that Iran would not accept any deal that compromises its national rights.
